Roll-over Minutes

In Sunday School last week, I was explaining the concept of roll-over minutes to my 14 year-old students.  Each month, we have unused minutes that are sent into the next month to be added to that month's allotted minutes.  In all the years that we have had this plan, we have never run out of minutes, or incurred a charge for extra minutes used.
Life is not like that.  In pursuing the topic of priorities, I was reading a talk by Dallin H. Oaks (who seems to have a lot to say on this topic!) and this bit of wisdom popped out at me:  Our priorities are most visible in how we use our time. Someone has said, “Three things never come back—the spent arrow, the spoken word, and the lost opportunity.” We cannot recycle or save the time allotted to us each day. With time, we have only one opportunity for choice, and then it is gone forever.
That kind of stopped me in my tracks!  You see, I have a problem with wasted time.  I start each day with the best of intentions, but at the end of the day, I can't really account for a lot of productive hours.  I want to change this.
I know the computer sucks up too much time.... facebook, shopping online, reading interesting articles, checking email.  The list goes on.  When I stop to think about it, I can see how much more productive my life was pre-tech.
I also have a problem with following through.  I am an endless list-maker.  I have to write things down because I will forget.  Another problem to overcome is sticking to my list.  I can't tell you how many days I have started out with a plan, only to scratch my head at the end of the day because I only crossed off, finished, one thing.  Oh, I started everything, but somewhere along the way I got distracted and jumped to another task on the list.  Or added something that wasn't there to begin with.  It's part of my random, buoyant nature.  But to live in this world (and with my task-oriented husband) I have to actually accomplish something!
Today's goal is to make a list of TWO things and to accomplish them.  It's a Saturday and we have plans away from home, so I will be realistic.  I think every human being needs to feel like they are contributing something valuable, even a random helium-filled personality like me.
